converged communications takes over IFB

Aberdeen-based Converged Communication Services has acquired Internet for Business (IFB. The acquisition comes after IFB, a fellow Aberdeen tech firm, struggled for nearly six months to find a buyer before bringing in Michael James Meston Reid of MHA as its administrator last week.

Although the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, Converged has confirmed that all 15 IFB employees will retain their jobs. They will be transitioned to Converged’s headquarters at Spires Business Centre. This move increases Converged’s total workforce to 63 and brings the company’s combined turnover closer to the £10 million mark.

Founded nearly 30 years ago, IFB built a strong reputation for delivering reliable connectivity and IT solutions. The company, co-founded by Chairman John Michie, has served as a critical player in Scotland’s tech ecosystem. For IFB, joining forces with Converged offers a strategic path forward, ensuring business continuity and providing customers access to a broader portfolio of technology services.

The acquisition is the third for Converged in the past two years. It demonstrates its ambition to strengthen its position as a leading Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) in Scotland. Over the years, Converged has evolved from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to a full-spectrum MSSP, offering a broad range of services, including connectivity, telephony, IT, and cybersecurity. Incorporating IFB’s expertise in delivering innovative connectivity solutions further enhances their business offering, expanding its services for customers.

The integration of IFB into the Converged Group is expected to create a more diversified and resilient business. The acquisition not only expands Converged’s market share but also aligns well with its strategy of providing end-to-end technology solutions to support business success. Both companies have established themselves as key players in Aberdeen’s digital infrastructure, and their combined strengths are set to enhance service offerings for businesses across the region.

The acquisition reflects broader trends in the UK’s tech sector, where rising costs, economic pressures, and changing market dynamics are pushing businesses towards consolidation. IFB’s administration highlights the financial distress faced by many companies. Its integration into Converged is a reminder of the challenging business environment that continues to drive mergers and acquisitions as a route to stability and growth.
