Luxury glamping provider Yurtel has entered liquidation. This news comes just weeks before Glastonbury Festival 2025, and as a consequence of this financial distress, many high-paying customers have been left without accommodation. Hundreds may also be left without tickets and without refunds.
The Wiltshire-based firm is known for its high-end festival packages priced between £10,000 and £16,500. It ceased trading on May 8 after succumbing to financial pressures. In an email to customers, Yurtel confirmed that it would be entering formal liquidation proceedings, citing insolvency as the cause.
The statement explained that Yurtel was “unable to fulfil its future obligations,” and that any accommodation booked through the company would not be available. Most significantly, it clarified that no Glastonbury tickets had ever been purchased on behalf of clients. This revelation has angered customers and raised questions about the company’s financial management.
Despite claiming to be a trusted Glastonbury partner, festival organisers have distanced themselves after the liquidation. They apparently had “no involvement with the operation of Yurtel” and were not responsible for any lost bookings. They also confirmed that Yurtel had not purchased any tickets for the 2025 festival before going into liquidation.
Since its liquidation, Yurtel has removed its website and social media presence. The company’s latest accounts were publically filed in October 2023. They reveal that the company was already facing financial strain, with debts totalling at least £765,000.
Numerous customers have reported paying via bank transfer, as Yurtel allegedly refused to accept credit cards. This is also a decision that may limit buyers’ chances of securing chargebacks. The company advised that refunds will not be available, and that creditors will be contacted with claim details once the liquidation is formally underway.
While demand for luxury experiences remains strong, spiralling operational costs, reduced consumer confidence, and tighter cash flow have created the perfect storm for insolvency. Yurtel’s downfall serves as a stark reminder: even premium brands catering to affluent markets are not immune to the realities of financial distress. As economic uncertainty continues into 2025, more companies in the events and hospitality sectors may face a similar fate.
